History of the Terrace Theater

In 1932, the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium opened between Hart Place and Collins Way on the southern side of Seaside Way. This auditorium was demolished in 1975, opening a space for something new. By 1978, the Terrace Theater, previously known as the Pacific Terrace Theatre, was constructed in its place as part of The Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.

During the opening year, Richard Pryor performed his legendary comedy special at the Terrace Theater, and the live show was recorded and released in movie theaters by 1979. This created a name for the Terrace Theater, encouraging more performers to set foot on its stage and take advantage of its renowned acoustics and layout. Today, the Terrace Theater continues to attract excellence to its stage and thousands of guests each year.
